Consultation has concluded

Engagement on the Sustainable Transport, Walking and Cycling Guidance has now ended.

The guidance has now been published and can be found on the GLA website: https://www.london.gov.uk/programmes-strategies/planning/implementing-london-plan/london-plan-guidance/sustainable-transport-walking-and-cycling-guidance

For London to be a sustainable city, we need new development to enable more people to move around the capital by walking, cycling and public transport. That means creating new walking routes and improving the cycle network, as well as ensuring we have enough transport infrastructure, such as bus garages, rail depots, or space for trams. And we need to safeguard land for major transport improvements, and consider how we can make the best use of car parks. London Plan policy T3 sets out the requirements for boroughs and planning applications relating to transport capacity, connectivity and safeguarding.

We have developed draft Sustainable Transport, Walking and Cycling guidance to support boroughs and applicants in meeting the requirements of the London Plan, and have carried out public engagement on the guidance.

Public engagement

Over the autumn of 2021, we asked for feedback on the draft Sustainable Transport, Walking and Cycling guidance. The consultation closed on 20 December 2021, and we ran a series of engagement events.

If you have any queries about this consultation, please email londonplan@london.gov.uk

The equality implications of the draft guidance have been assessed through an equality impact assessment, which can be viewed in the document library.

What happens next

All feedback will be reviewed and a consultation summary document will be published alongside the final guidance. The final guidance will be published in 2022.
