Welcome!
Welcome to the portal for the Design Future London Design Challenge. All information on the challenge will be published here. This is a place where everyone involved in the challenge can get all the information they need, contact us, and also share their experiences of the challenge.
Once you are signed up on this website make sure you keep coming back as we will issue more and more information as we go along. This will be covered in regular newsletters too so make sure you are registered.
The Design Challenge
As you know, we’ve teamed up with George Clarke, architect and TV presenter, to launch an innovative planning and design challenge for young Londoners. The Mayor of London is partnering with George's charity MOBIE to deliver the challenge for three age groups – GCSE (11-15), A Level / BTEC / T Level (16-18), and higher education (19+). check the terms and conditions entry over on the right hand side
Entrants will be able to choose a site close to the new City Hall at the Royal Docks to masterplan a new neighbourhood and/or design a home. There are four key themes that feature throughout all of the aspects of the challenge:
- Making Places
- Sustainable Transport
- Building Housing
- Green Energy / Climate Change.
Check out your toolbelt - this has all the information that you need to complete the design challenge - including your challenge brief.
What is included in your TOOLBELT?
The toolbelt includes the overall brief for everyone, more detail on what is required for each age group, and lots of other resources and video materials linked to the four key themes we are asking you to look at.
It also includes some information on 'how to do design' - this includes how to think about designing a home and also how to think about producing a masterplan for a new neighbourhood.
Whilst not essential for younger age groups we have included lots of access to digital tools to help build your skills for the future. Take a look at the 'how to do digital' section.

Later on this year we will introduce you to colleagues across the built environment industry to tell you a bit about what they do. We will also be building a bank of careers information as part of the toolbelt.
The challenge is linked to the national curriculum so is relevant to your classes, exams, and qualifications.
There is a YouTube Channel!
We have linked to lots of video material on our YouTube channel - there are playlists for some of the themes and more. We will add to this throughout the challenge and let you know through the newsletters. Make sure you are registered on this website to make sure you get them!
